Artist Carol Bass works with both pastels and acrylic art mediums. She enjoys painting to recreate almost anything that authentically inspires her, using a variety of artistic styles, which include whimsical, realistic and impressionist.

Carol feels drawn to painting the things that capture and awe her, and is compelled as an artistic to make an effort to preserve some of God's beautiful scenes on canvas.

Carol has been painting since 1997 after the passing of her beloved Mother left a huge gap in her life. Carol found that painting eased the  grief in her heart and discovered she has a deep love of recreating all of the things that cheer her with their charm.

The Acrylic & Pastel Art Mediums - Why Artists Love Them

Acrylic paint is fast-drying containing pigment that can be diluted with water, but becomes water-resistant when dry. When acrylic paint is diluted (with water) or modified with acrylic gels, media, or pastes, the finished acrylic painting can resemble a watercolor or an oil painting, or have its own unique characteristics not attainable with any other art media.

Acrylic paints can be used in high gloss or matte finishes and just as with oil paints, the pigment amounts and particle size can alter the paint sheen. Likewise, matting agents can be added to dull the finish. Topcoats or varnishes may also be applied to alter sheen and other additives can create texture. When dry, acrylic paint is generally non-removable.

Pastel is an art medium in the form of a stick, consisting of pure powdered pigment and a binder. The pigments used in pastels are the same as those used to produce all colored art media, including oil paints; the binder is of a neutral hue and low saturation. The color effect of pastels is closer to the natural dry pigments than that of any other process.
